Nujabes

I was recently introduced to an artist by the name of Nujabes. Maybe you've already heard of him. Maybe you haven't. But one thing is sure: you will. The kid can string together words in a mind blowing way. And the beats those words are laid over is nothing short of amazing. Your ears are met by the suffuse of pianos married to synth beats, equalizing each other causing an incredible and mezmerizing effect. It really is crazy! I'm sold. His sound is reminiscent of an early Lupe, in the word smith category, because after that they fork in two way different paths.

But definatly check this kid out, my personal favourite track? Feather, i don't know if i have the rights to embed the video here, so i'll just copy and paste the url.

The CoverGirl covers i-D

Thursday, February 11, 2010 0 comments
this is one of those times when the crossroads of high fashion and hip hop will cross righ in front of my half caff feet. Rihanna (my absolute favourite good girl gone bad) has recently joined the likes of some of fashions elite as the cover girl of the recent issue of the Fashion+ magazine i-D. i-D has had many a beautiful (and interesting charecter) grace their covers, but some of my favourites include the down under beauty  Gemma, (the lovely california girl) Chanel and (and the one and only, and my personal hero) Devon. Rihanna's cover continues the tradition of i-Ds interesting and edge pushing photos. The photo captures the CoverGirl with a side part and audrey hepburn+ brows paired with a blank canvas face and lips. And if that wasn't enough for you, the subtitle beneath her is plenty eye catching.Tres Bien i-D, Tres Bien.

it seems that the weather has decided to take a nasty turn (must be it's way of getting back at us for our hummers, *gasp* was that my outside voice?!). Translation: 4-6 inches of pure alabster fluff (snow, that is). And i have to admit, it was quite a nice change to the usual dreary weather :). Though it did make my heart sing a little lonely song dedicated to Chicago. :< do you miss me chi-town?!? I miss you! and in equal karmic order, snow (as all teens know) = no school! And i was determinded not to let the whole day go by without me atleast taking some shots (no one said upload). So starting at the crack of noon i devoted myself to slave away at taking just a few shots (can anyone say 200 hundred-ish). As small a task this may seem, not having anyone to actually take the picture for you can prove to be problematic. Quite problematic. I found the tripod, only it turned out to be a tripod for video camera's. psshhh no problem for this hybrid, a few strategic duct tape placements later i had somehow manuevered a TRIPOD *we are the champions proceeds to play in the backgroud* only to have the batteries in the camera die :[ *song abruptly ends*. But as we all in theatre/fashion (pssh what's the differenc?) the show must go on, so i was forced to my final resort- the cell phone camera. Not to say the iPhone doesn't take phenomenal pictures, it's just that awful factoid of actually seing the hand that shot the photo in the photo...? yea, but here is the biproudct of my day. more photos after the jump

i hope your eyes may feast upon the shots

Forever the King Mr. McQueen

The Fashion world was just handed an immensely hard hand. The Great designer Alexander McQueen has left us to go on and pursue his next mission. He was a brilliant mind that will be forever missed but will never stop shining. He will live on in our hearts, minds and wardrobes. We will always love you and the profound effect you have imparted to us.

all my love goes to alexander and his family; you will be missed more than you could ever know.

multi use

Wednesday, February 3, 2010 0 comments

In these trying times, it is essential to buy things that have versatility and multiple uses, especially in fashion. Yes, that top might be cute, but how many times will you really be wearing that? And that is where many of us fall out. I used to be notorious for it, buy things wear them once and just think that it was such a shame i did that (buy them I mean). The real challenge is finding ways to make them work once they're in your possesion.

Case in Point:
This skirt I recently purhcased at Forever 21, funny little story behind this one. I was walking through the mall after a long day of radio and special appearances with my godmother and her artist, Omarion. We had just finished up the MLK day parade, and were on to the last event of the evening: an album signing (shoutOut: Everyone check out Ollusion! The album review will follow this post) at a music store in the mall when it hits me, I'm in a mall! Instead of just sitting here looking like a bum in the corner I could take my little hybrid self and go buy something for <$10 ( that was my food budget for the day, it always comes down to the age old question "Style or Substance) and i did! By sheer chance i passed this skirt on the mannequin and thought "hey i might as well go atleast look at it", so i turned back around and found it. For $6!! That's right Six dollars! PSH didnt' even matter if it looked good i was getting it!

Here are a few examples on how i worked this little number

If your confused as to why I'm sportin the loser L be sure to check out my review on Lupe Fiasco's Enemy of the State. If your confused as to who Lupe Fiasco is, take a moment, minimize this page, and google some of his songs, I would recomend, The Emporer's Soundtrack, Kick Push (one and two) Go Baby, and SuperStar, ofcourse, but be sure your  mentally secure, because he will surely blow your mind.
